About Bal Harbour
Bal Harbour was incorporated in 1946 and re-chartered by the Florida Legislature in 1947. The village covers just 0.64 square miles at the northern tip of Miami Beach's barrier island, with Collins Avenue as its main corridor — a footprint deliberately kept small and low-density compared to the high-rise corridor further south.
Bal Harbour Shops, built in 1965 by the Whitman family, sits at the village's center and remains one of the most exclusive retail destinations in the country. Around it, condominium towers including the St. Regis Bal Harbour (2007), Oceana Bal Harbour (2012), and the Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour (2014) anchor the village's beachfront.
The village undertook major beach replenishment starting in 1971 to address erosion, an early sign of the long-term investment that continues to keep Bal Harbour's beach among the widest and best-maintained on this stretch of coast. Indian Creek Village and Surfside are both immediate neighbors.
